MARY SCHMITZ, LICSW

Psychotherapist

My journey to becoming a therapist began with my own battle back from a severe bout with depression, a divorce and a radical conversion to Christianity that changed the focus of my life. While raising my 3 children I earned my BSW from Minnesota State University, Moorhead. I have extensive experience working in long term care settings, including 13 years working in a facility with clients who suffer from persistent mental illness, predominately clients who suffer from psychotic disorders. This is a position that I still hold today. While working in this setting I earned my MSW from St. Catherine/St. Thomas in 2014, and obtained my LICSW in 2018. From 2013 to 2015 I gained more experience as a mental health practitioner providing ARMHS services.

My faith in Jesus Christ is the center of my practice and is the driving force that led me to Applied Care Services two years ago. I began with the company in 2018, completing Diagnostic Assessments (DA), and started doing in-home psychotherapy that fall. I strongly believe in the wrap around services that ACS provides. I like to work side by side with the ARMHS provider, working on similar goals and helping further develop coping skills, strategies and techniques.

When I made the decision to further my education, my dream job was to do in-home psychotherapy. I believe in the concept of taking therapy into the home, of going to the client, instead of the client coming to me. I am very compassionate about my work to help you overcome mental health challenges that you face every day.
